<< Question #SG030 - Blemishes on Black Skin

Hi i am a 26 year old African British citizen. I have black spots on my face that came as a result of pimples that dried and left them there. As a result, my facial complexion isnt even.I dont necessarily have pimples but i get a rush kind of thing. I would like to get a clear flawless skin with an even complexion but most of the products i have read about that do that are designed for white skin. Can anyone advise me please? My wedding is coming up and i would like very nice clear flawless skin. Does anybody know any specialists in black skin?
I would also like to have a tan for my body on the wedding. Is there tanning for black skin? Please advise. Thank you. - Ingrid

>> Answer #SG030 - Blemishes on Black Skin

For an even complexion, use a concealment cosmetic. L'Oreal has one available that comes in 3 shades, each shade having 2 colors you blend to match your skin tone. Their darkest would be suitable for light-skinned blacks.

<< Question #SG031 - Oily Skin & Enlarged Pores

First, I have really oily skin and hair. I know it is from to much sebum being produced in the dermis. I'm wondering with all the research if there is anything that can regulate sebum production other than acutane. Next I have really large pores due to my oily skin. Is there anything that makes pores smaller? I am using Retin-a micro and I heard that works but I was wondering if there was anything that works for sure. - Maggie

>> Answer #SG031 - Oily Skin & Enlarged Pores

I've had oily skin and enlarged pores. I started taking a product called AminoSculpt for my joint pain. The first thing I noticed was the change to my face, my skin is so smooth and my pores are way smaller than I could ever thought they'd be again. I'm almost 48,  most people think I'm in my early to middle 30's. Check it out at aminosculpt.com.

<< Question #SG033 - Make-up base applied daily

Hey um I would like to know... What damage can make-up do if applied daily? - Ellie, NZ

>> Answer #SG033 - Make-up base applied daily

Actually a good quality foundation (or make-up base) can be better for your skin than going without, as long as you have a good skin cleansing routine to remove it each night. Be sure to purchase one with a sun-block included. A make-up base or foundation can protect your skin from the elements, help hold moisture in, keep dirt and pollutants out of the pores, and the sunblock can help prevent wrinkles, and protect from skin cancer.

Mascara should always be completely removed at night, especially at the base of the eyelashes. Failure to do this can result in individual eyelashes falling out "before their time" resulting in less eyelashes. Almay offers a good, hypo-allergenic, non-oily mascara remover. Castor oil is also good, if the oil doesn't bother your eyes. Good for the lashes, but has to be removed completely before applying fresh mascara. - Ed

<< Question #SG035 - Loose Skin & Exercise

Can exercise tighten skin? - Patricia, TX

>> Answer #SG035 - Loose Skin & Exercise

What exercise does is bulk up and lift and tighten the muscles. This can sometimes have a slight "tightening effect" of the skin due to larger muscles taking up more space and making the skin look a lttle tighter. Same for the face, and the muscles become firmer "lifting" the skin with them. The backs of the arms (bat wings) can be tightened with exercise because that is usually flabby muscles hanging, and not the skin. Exercise can release growth hormone, helping to thicken the skin. But exercise does not directly tighten skin. See SG0010 above. - Ed

My neck is dark in colour... I wear clothes which covers my neck. I want to overcome this problem, but how????  - Baljit, Malaysia

Try Skin Bleaching Cream. There are some that are real potent, and some that are milder. Over time, they will lighten the skin. Then continued use will keep the skin lighter. - Ed

<< Question #SG038 - Melasma - Skin Discoloration

I am very much frustrated with malasma in my face. Is there any ultimate treatment for this? You are requested to inform me if you know any home made safe remedy for that. - Alam, Rajshahi

>> Answer #SG038 - Melasma - Skin Discoloration

The biggest cause of this condition is oral contraceptives. If you are on them, get off. There are 2 types: Dermal Melasma (deeper in the skin) and Epidermal Melasma (closer to the skin surface). Dermal Melasma is much harder to treat, and you need to be diagnosed as to which you have.

The basic treatment for Melasma is sunblock, a bleaching agent, and time. Sunscreen is an absolute must. (An opaque sunscreen with SPF over 30 plus cover up). Bleaching preparations: 2 or 4% hydroquinone-containing creams or gels and 3% hydroquinone solution.

For Dermal Melasma: A particular type of alpha hydroxy acid (mandelic acid) can help improve it. (MaMa Lotion & NuCelle Skin Care carries it). This acid is safe on Asian and Latino skin types.

Up to 2 months are required to get a response and up to 6 months to complete the process. Opaque sunscreen should be continued through at least one summer season to reduce the risk of recurrence. Many times this condition will resolve itself over time after childbirth or the discontinuance of oral contraceptives.  (Skin Bleaching Cream)

<< Question #SG039 - Acne - Indian Skin - Kaya Products

I am 31 years old. I have pimple marks on my face. The marks are in the shape of dots or holes that are made on the skin. I heard from someone that KAYA Skin Care cures these marks. Will it help? Please advise. I do not want to invest in something which won't result in a positive response. Also am budget constrained. - Ruby, Ahmedabad

>> Answer #SG039 - Acne - Indian Skin - Kaya Products

If what you are describing as "holes" are true acne pits, there is no "cream" that will get rid of them. Kaya products are exfoliants and can remove the top "dead" layer of skin, but can not remove the deep acne scars. - Ed
