<< Question #HR021 - Facial Hair Removal

If i remove my facial hair, (chin..upper lip) with a hair remover will i then have stubble like a man when it comes back? - madison heights

>> Answer #HR021 - Facial Hair Removal

Only if you shave it. If you pull it out by the root, such as by tweezing or waxing, and do it often, it will actually grow back finer. You want to remove it at the root, not cut the hair.

<< Question #HR022 - Removing temporary hair color

My original color is dirty-ash blond w/highlights.  I was looking for a red auburn color. I colored my hair with Loreal non permanent hair color (chestnut) and it is too dark.  I waited one week applied a shade lighter (redwood); still too dark.  Is there a safe way to remove the color? I would be happy with my original color.
- Cumberland

>> Answer #HR022 - Removing temporary hair color

My daughter also used a hair color that made her hair really dark.  I suggested she use Dawn dishwashing liquid and it did remove alot of the color and lighten it up. This was a lot easier that doing the process the coloring company suggested.

<< Question #HR023 - Green Hair - Pool Chlorine

My hair is blonde and I was told that it can turn green if I swim in a chlorinated water. If it DOES turn green, how can I fix it? Is there a special type of shampoo to fix it or?   Thanks a mil! - Lisa

>> Answer #HR023 - Green Hair - Pool Chlorine

The greening of hair from swimming pools is not caused by chlorine. It's caused by the presence of hard metals (copper, iron, and manganese, in particular) in the pool water. Chlorine oxidixes the metals and bonds it to your hair. Copper is the worst offender. The pool owner should have their water tested & keep the metals within normal range.

If your hair is already green, purchase a shampoo that's specially formulated for swimmers and contains either chelating agents (metal removers), such as EDTA (ethylenediamene tetracetic acid), erythorbic acid, and possibly acetylsalicylic acid (same as aspirin, and main ingredient in Scalpicin).

"Paul Brown Clarifying Shampoo" - to remove the Chlorine & the "Green."
"Treat Elite Leave in Conditioner - to protect your hair in the water.
"Ultra Swim" - claims to render the chlorine molecules harmless.
Jason Swimmer's Shampoo (No description available).

Some swimmer's shampoos/conditioners may leave a "coating" on the hair. To remove the build-up, rinse your hair after shampooing with white vinegar and water. Do not over-use these products.
Check your local beauty supply for the above products.

Here's an article from a real "chemical" expert!
Green Hair from Swimming Pools
by Johnie Crocker - President & CEO: Water Utility Chemicals, Inc.
Blondes, whether peroxide or another hair bleaching method, or just naturals, are susceptible to the green monster after a dip in the pool. The culprit is not the chlorine, as I’ve seen in many articles...

>> Answer #HR023 - Green Hair - Pool Chlorine

I had my hair turn green from sitting in a whirlpool for about a half hour.  Thankfully, it was just on the ends.  I thought I would have to get it cut out, but I went to a salon the next morning and then used a mixture of peroxide of somesort, left it in for only a few minutes, and the green came right out.  I was relieved!  I had blonde highlights put in my naturally meduim blonde hair a week before.  If this happens to any of you fellow blondes out there, please have a beautician try this.  You may not have to cut your hair!  - Johanna, CA

<< Question #HR024 - Hair loss - Shampooing

I recently used about half the amount of shampoo that I normally use and lathered it into my wet hair. While trying to distribute this small amount of shampoo by massaging it throughout the surface area of my scalp, I noticed more hairs fell off onto my hands than usual because of the minimal amount of lather while massaging. Is it normal to have more hairs falling than usual if I lather my hair with less shampoo than I usually would and do the hairs grow back? - Greg

>> Answer #HR024- Hair loss - Shampooing

If this has only occurred during this vigorous shampooing, you are probably pulling the hair out; most likely hairs that are getting ready to fall our naturally. If you aren't seeing more hairs than usual in your comb or brush, you have nothing to worry about.

<< Question #HR025 - Hair dye - Orange roots

I tried to dye my own black roots dark brown. My hair turned orangey red. what can I do at home to tone it down? - melanie

>> Answer #HR025 - Hair dye - Orange roots

Ask your local beauty supply for a "toner." Toners are added to dyes to remove the red tones by adding "green" to the hair. This is a tricky process to do just roots, and should be done by a professional.

<< Question #HR026 - Body Hair - Hirsuitism

I have a terrible problem. I am only 13 and I have hair all over my body. I may have tanned color skin but my body hair is REALLY noticable. I have hair on my toes, knuckles, my lower and upper back, my chest, stomach, face, and even my butt. Is there any way I can remove all of this without shaving or waxing? - Rachael

>> Answer #HR026 - Body Hair - Hirsuitism

You need to see an Endocrinologist. It's called hirsuitism, and you are producing too much male hormone. It's important you see a doctor, as sometimes it can be due to an underlying disease process. That needs to be ruled out. More about Hirsuitism

<< Question #HR029  Hair dye - Home Vs. Salon

my sister said that you should only have your hair dyed in a salon or you will end up ruining your hair after a while of home dying does anyone agree or disagree with this and maybe have some answer to why.. - chrissy

>> Answer #HR029 - Hair dye - Home Vs. Salon

Dyeing your hair at home with a quality hair dye is OK if you follow directions & take care of your hair properly. Bleaching your hair at home can ruin your hair, as this is a very tricky process. When you "dye" your hair, you are adding color, and is a milder process. Bleaching your hair strips the color from it. This should be done by a professional, only.
