<< Question #HR060 - Toning down red highlights

I have reddish highlights in my natural hair color which is dirty blonde, light brown. I want to go a little lighter, but don't want the red highlights. What kind of dye do I need to get that will NOT bring out the reddish highlights? - Sharon, Boiling Springs

>> Answer #HR060 - Toning down red highlights

Choose from light, medium, or dark ASH blonde. You can tone it down even more by adding a TONER. Check with your local beauty supply store, or better yet, have it done professionally. - Ed

<< Question #HR061 - Hair style for long face

I am 67 and have very fine, thin and straight hair. What would be a good cut for me? I would like to stay away from perms. I have a long face I think. - Sandra, Columbus

>> Answer #HR061 - Hair style for long face

Flat hair and long hair tends to make the face look longer and thinner. It needs to be cut below the earlobe, and above the jaw line. It also needs some fullness on the sides to create a rounded look rather than a straight up and down look. May be difficult to achieve without a perm or constant use of a curling iron.

<< Question #HR062 - Dry frizzy hair

My hair only sits nicely and the way I want it when it is greasy and needs to be washed. Otherwise it's horrible and frizzy. For this reason I don't wash my hair as often as I should. What can I do to help this--is there any products I can buy? - Aisling, Dublin

>> Answer #HR062 - Dry frizzy hair

Sounds like you simply have a dry hair problem. Your scalp oils aren't getting to the hair itself. Brush your hair a lot to bring the natural oils to the hair. Use a dry hair shampoo and a conditioner for dry hair. Use a styling gel to make it behave. - Ed

<< Question #HR063 - Hair Highlighting Kits for Home Use

I have been getting my hair colored and highlighted professionally for years now and would like to know what product I could use over the counter that would give the best results at home. Thank you! - Carmela, Mount Laurel

>> Answer #HR063 - Hair Highlighting Kits for Home Use

Get a Home Hair Highlighting KIT. The simplest to use is Revlon Frost & Glow and it is the highest rated kit, giving the most professional results. It is also a one-step kit. Note: a metal hook works better than the plastic one that comes with the kit. Get one at a beauty supply store. - JP San Diego

<< Question #HR064 - Red Highlights Too Red

I recently had my hair colored with 3 different colors. Brown underneath red and blond highlights, but she got too much red. What can I do to get some of the red out? - Sandra, Jerseyville

>> Answer #HR064 - Red Highlights Too Red

Other than saturating the entire hair with a toner which would tone down every color, you would have to use a toner on, and wrap every red strand. Best to have a professional do this. - Ed

<< Question #HR065 - PCOS & Excessive Hair Growth

I would like to ask about laser hair removal. My doctor suspects i have PCOS, and i am geeting blood tests done. But i have alot of facial and bodily hair, and i want to have laser treatment done. I am also pushed for time, as Im getting married in 4 months and i want to be hair-free before then! Should i just go ahead with treatment, or wait for test results?? Reaally confused!! - Ivy, Leicester

>> Answer #HR065 - PCOS & Excessive Hair Growth

WAIT FOR THE DIAGNOSIS!!! One of the main symptoms of PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome, also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome) is EXCESSIVE HAIR GROWTH!!! Take care of the disease, and the excess hair will probably go away on its own. Why pay for a very expensive treatment when it may not be needed at all. Meanwhile, use dipilitories (creams) or other simpler methods. Note: You would have received this information sooner if you hadn't used a fake email address. - Editor

Lysol won't really hurt your hair. It is an irritant to the scalp. BUT...do you really want to go around smelling like Lysol for a few days?? Pretty potent stuff. - Ed

<< Question #HR067 - Hair - Permed - Pressing Combs

Can a pressing comb be used on hair that is being transitioned from perm back to natural? - Nadine, Kansas City

>> Answer #HR067 - Permed - Pressing Combs

If you are waiting for a grow-out, and the permed hair seems fairly strong, keep the permed hair well conditioned, and make sure the hair is thoroughly dry before you start. Use the pressing comb sparingly, and keep the heat moderate. Stop if you experience any breakage. Braids are a good alternative, especially for casual wear. Save the pressing comb for special occasions. - Ed

<< Question #HR069 - Hair - Lemon - Lightener

Adding lemon directly to hair can cause greying?? - Sarayu, Bangalore

>> Answer #HR069 - Hair - Lemon - Lightener

No, it will not turn your hair gray. However, the citric acid in lemon juice can slightly lighten hair over time. Best used for light brown and blonde hair. For dark hair, use cider vinegar instead. 2 TBSP to a cup of water to remove shampoo residue, pool chemicals, etc. - Ed
