| << Question #HR070 - Hair Growth Hi, My hair is damaged and i'm worried that it's having growth
problems. I started straightening my hair EVERYDAY for a year or two, (at some point I run
out of heat protectant and didn't buy more).I have dyed my hair 4 or 5 times, and bleached
my fringe. My hair has also been razored. Since I have moved back to England I have had a
trim to get rid of split ends, havn't used heat and havnt dyed it. I have also been using
mayonaise, repair shampoo and conditioner, deep conditioner and leave in conditoner for 3
and half months now and it still hasn't grown. Its also abit dry & frizzy still :/ Ive
also been taken skin hair and nail caplets from holland and barret. I really want my hair
long! Any advice? thanks :) - Lucy, Londont

#HR070 - Hair Growth
Hair generally grows at a rate of about half an inch (1.25
centimeters) per month. The most common cause of retarded growth and wispy hair is clogged
follicles. It's the scalp that needs treatment, not the hair. STOP using all those
external hair treatments. Use a shampoo designed to remove residue from hair and scalp,
and follow with a vinegar rinse. The vinegar will help dissolve and remove substances
clogging the follicles. If you must use a conditioner, apply it only to the hair ends.
Keep it off the scalp! Look at your diet. Are you getting sufficient protein? If all else
fails, see a dermatologist for a scalp assessment.
Vinegar Rinse: 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of warm water. This rinse will
remove residue, balance the PH of your hair & scalp, and can smooth out the hair shaft
by closing the cuticles. - Ed

#HR071 - Hair Falling Out in Clumps
My hair recently started "dreading" itself in the
back and no amount of conditioner will fix it. I have tried olive oil, and eggs. Nothing.
My hair is falling out in clumps. What can I do? - Coleen, Groveland
>> Answer
#HR071 - Hair Falling Out in Clumps
The "dreading" is from the hair not fully forming
into a healthy, strong shaft. This can sometimes be nutritional, such as a lack of
protein. Hair falling out in clumps is generally from stress. However, both these
conditions can also occur due to a scalp condition or disease, or even from a systemic
disease. It would be best for you to consult a dermatologist.
