anti-allergy creams but nothing really worked. Sometimes it soothes a bit but sometimes

>> Answer #SK100 - Eczema
- Abdomen/ Stomach
This is basically a "how do I cure
eczema" question, asked multiple times over this forum. There is no cure. Even the
actual cause is in question. However, the forum is filled with suggestions for alleviating
symptoms. We suggest you read through the entire forum and select what you feel might work
for you. This is "trial and error," since what works for one, may not work for
another. Be sure to read about the use of Head
& Shoulders Shampoo. Also read the Eczema Tips
page.

White Patches
I had eczema since I was child (8 years old), now 33. It
started on my instep of my feet and elbows, then inside my buttock cheeks and inner thigh.
After a year or so I lost pigment on all of those places, so I ended up with very white
patches and they still itch a lot. How can I regain the lost pigment, why did I lose the
pigment in the first place? I know it is not vitiligo, I never heard anyone with this
problem and I am very embarrassed to go to the doctors, because of the private areas the
white patches are on. Can anyone give me an answer, please? Thank you. - Jordy, Melbourne.

I guess you didn't read through the forum or
you would have seen that many people have complained about that same problem. Most have
gotten the white patches from the use of cortisone creams, but years of inflammation in
the area can interfere with pigment. Secondly, find a "same sex" dermatologist.
Frankly, I don't think the doctor has to see all of your parts. You can be diagnosed and
helped by showing any of your "public" skin areas. You have to stop the
inflammation, and for that, you should start with a dermatologist. And, it will take time,
and trial and error, to get a good response. - Ed

Returns in Adult Years
Hi I seriously need help. I'm 21 yrs old and suffered from
eczema as a child. I grew out of it till about 18 months ago and now it's really severe
and nothing the doctor gives me seems to work. It's not just physically affecting me, it's
also emotional now too. It's all over my body and nothing I do is helping me. Can anyone
help me? - Chloe, England

- Returns in Adult Years
If it's been gone for all these years, and didn't return at
puberty (where hormones could be the culprit) I would look for ANY changes that have
occurred recently. Have you recently gone on birth control hormones? Have you changed
climates or locations: housing, schools, jobs? Anything new in the house? Check your
diet--any new cravings & binges on particular foods? Any new foods, medications,
cosmetics, household cleaners/supplies, laundry detergent/softeners? Get rid of everything
with fragrances--even aromatherapy & natural oils. NO room fresheners. Do not polish
your fingernails. Do not go to beauty salons for awhile. Had any infections lately? Have
you recently taken antibiotics? Are you working around Xerox machines and/or copiers? How
was your emotional state before the break-out? Any emotional upheavals, job changes,
losses? You will need to be a detective on this, and really pay attention to possibly root
out an environmental/chemical exposure problem or emotional trigger. - Ed

Childhood - Eyelids
I have a 3 year old with eczema on his skin and it is worst
around his left eye lid. He keeps itching and rubbing it until the skin peels off. I have
been to the skin doctor with numerous creams that was given but didn't help the eyelid but
did help the body part. I need help on how to clear this up. It has made the upper eyelid
red at times and black and blue at other times from over rubbing. He has an eye allergy,
and I have removed certain food but still has the same problem. I am thinking maybe it's
the toys or him sitting on the floor too often and then rubbing his eyes might be the
problem. Please can someone help with any advice on how to clear this up, is great.

Next, try eliminating environmental factors.
Wash clothing & bedding in a fragrance & dye free solution, and make sure they are
well-rinsed. Look for a liquid detergent. Soap powders are a problem. In the USA we have
"All" Free Clear which is excellent. Make sure his hands are free of soaps &
substances. Keep him away from anything with latex. The floors: Carpeting has a problem
with dyes, glues, chemicals, and dust mites. Bare flooring, well-washed, and well-rinsed
is better. Preferably a wood floor rather than vinyl tile, but the tile is better than
carpet. The toys: try eliminating one toy at a time, keeping him away from it for at least
3 days. If no change, bring back that toy, and remove another. Does he sleep with a
stuffed toy? Sometimes a favorite stuffed toy is loaded with dust mites. Have it
steam-cleaned. And Mommy, DO NOT wear perfumes, scented body washes or shampoos, scented
fabric softeners, or use scented room deodorizers in your house--not even scented or
chemically treated garbage bags. Lastly, you might go one step further and consult with an
opthamologist or allergist/immunologist. - Ed
