<< Question #SK020
Eczema - Excema - Allergies - Stretch Marks
Hi there - I'm 18 years old and have suffered
from excema my whole life. No one else in my family has it so I was the unfortunate
one. My question is this. I normally only get excema on 2 places, at certain times, my
legs and I have a spot on each had, right behind my thumb, on my hand in one patch.
It flares up at the smallest things. I was wondering, why is this?? Only this spot most of
the time? My doctor has me on a lotion called Ken80Mg/Lachydrin225gm
and I have been using it for the past two years. It helps now, but not as well
as it did when I first started. Could my body be immune to this now?? Also, since
I've started it, I've gotten a few stretch marks on my thighs, they have diminished, but
this was noticable after I started this lotion and I'm not overweight, could this
steroid be doing this?? Help! Also, do you think it would be helpful to get in contact
with someone to get an allergy test to see what my allergens are? - Danielle, Missouri

Answer #SK020
Eczema - Excema - Allergies - Stretch Marks
I suffered from a severe case of full-body
eczema for about a year. I was also given the Lachydrin lotion which
burned. It's still in my medicine chest. Sometimes depending on the severity and locations
of the rash; certain remedies don't work-or may work for a while. You might try a
non-steroid approach. Like Protopic or Elidel. Also,
there's nothing like good old Vaseline. Especially for the hands and
feet.Take showers or baths using warm water and within 2-3 minutes after put on some
Vaseline in those really dry areas. Some natural oils are good too. Such as: lavender,
vitamin e, Emu oil. Change your diet to eliminate sugars
and caffeine. Drink lots of water and relax-try to stay as stress free as possible. That
helped me alot, especially to stop concentrating on the itching. I would scratch so much,
I had everyone else in the house itching ! Stay encouraged and keep trying-your body will
respond to what works best. - Z

Eczema - Excema - Thin Skin - Birth Control Pills
Hi there - I have another question
regarding excema. I have been reading that steroids thin the skin and this really scares
me because since I've been using this Kennalon lotion, I've noticed some spider vein and
stretch marks on my legs that weren't there before I used this. I am only 18 years
old and used to have beautiful skin and now, it's not so great. I'm really scared because
I've been using it for two years. I have been on the pill for a year now, Yasmine to be
exact. Can birth control have anything to do with excema? - Danielle, Missouri City

Answer #SK021
Eczema - Excema - Thin Skin - Birth Control Pills
I've suffered with eczema all my life for 28
years, but after I had a baby my eczema got worse. When it got worse, I didn't know if it
was the birth control pills, I used after I had the baby was causing the problem. So, my
obgyn put me on a low dose birth control pill until I got to see my dermatologist. When I
went to the dermatologist, I asked her did me being on birth control pills cause my eczema
break out, and she told me "No", the pills had nothing to do with my eczema
breakout. - Sharon

Answer #SK021
Eczema - Excema - Thin Skin - Birth Control Pills
I had Eczema for about 14 yrs straight. On my
upper thighs doctors diagnosing it for yrs as a simple rash or allergy to ringworm. Well,
I changed doctors and areas and the new doctor said I had Eczema! I thought if it was so
easy to fix or diagnose the others would have it fixed by now.
I was given Elidel and it sorta worked but not well. I was then put on a birth control
patch and it went completely away I thought it was the Elidel finaly working. But hey I
could wear a bathing suit w/o shorts for the first time in 14 yrs!! This lasted for 1 yr
until I stopped the birth control patch and within a week it was coming back and has been
getting worse! Figure it is the hormone level. The Eczema started when my monthly started
when I was 11 and went away when I was pregnant. My doctor told me some people react to
hormones differently than others. My doctor says she can give me hormone things but would
rather not. She recomends me using the patch still. Maybe this will help some. - Katrina,

Eczema - Excema - Hands & Feet
I was diagnosed with "adult exema"
several years ago by a dermatologist. It flares up only on my hands and feet. The worst is
my feet. It gets so bad that sometimes the skin is almost gone in certain areas. I've used
prednizone, hydracortizone creams, is there anything I can do. I'm on my feet and in shoes
about 18 hours a day 6 days a week which doesn't help. - Laura, St. Louis

Eczema - Excema - Hands & Feet
I have exactly the same problem. It started on my feet as a
kid, and I'd scratch until it literally took off the first few layers of skin. That
healing process hurt, but i learned to quit scratching so hard. Then, a year or two ago, I
noticed it hit my left hand-palm. I dunno why - the nearest I can figure is stress.
Usually, When I know i'm going to have a relaxing night, the palm will just
"heal" itself. Like my body moisturizes right there. Have you found any help?
I'm heading to the dermatologist on Jun 13, 2003 to see what she can do. - Daniel

Astringent Solution* and to use this as a soak or a compress 3 times a
day. You can get this astringent at Walmart, Walgreens, Eckereds, Super 1 Foods,

Wow - i tried that soak, and within 15 minutes, my feet were
itching so bad, I couldn't take it. I tried doing mineral oil immediately after shower to
"lock in the moisture." While it prevents the itching, at night, when I'd take
my socks/shoes off for bed (only time I do), they were all flakey. -khai
*Note from Editor: Is the Domeboro
Astringent Solution supposed to be diluted with a certain amount of water? Maybe it was
used full-strength and that caused the itching? Maybe try diluting it.

Eczema - Excema - Hands & Feet
I just recently dealt with an severe eczema breakout. I had
the red cracked skin, and oozing sores where i scratched. What helped get it under
control? Apple cider vinegar! A friend of mine that suffered with full
body eczema told me to try this. Dilute it with water and soak for a few minutes (it will
sting at first but dies down as eczema clears up). It dried up the sores and smoothed out
my skin, as long as i followed up with a moisturizer. Im not into long term use of steroid
creams for fear they will thin out my skin. Hope this helps!!! - New York

I also have itchy hands and feet which crack and blister.
Dermatologist and Naturepaths couldn't help. Got a cold sore and started using L-Lysine
which cleared up my hands and feet. I have been taking about 4,000 mg of L-Lysine daily.
Eliminating processed foods (starches that turn to sugar) helps also. - Denise

I also have excema on my face! It started about
a year and a half ago (I'm only 20) and has been getting worse since then. I've tried
Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. So far nothing has helped, but
I have a liver flush tomorrow and I am hoping that will work. I can totally relate to not
wanting to go out in public, being depressed all the time, I never think I am pretty. It's
awful to bathe and at night it gets worse. I believe there is a cure, you just have to
find out what is going on with your body. It could be the Immune System (causes allergic
reactions when it is weakened) or an organ in your body. I recommend a Naturopath for
sure. - Ashley, BC
>> Answer #SK025
Eczema - Excema - dry itchy rash - discolored skin
I'm 21 and have had excema in various places on
my whole body all my life but it has recently gotten worese in the last 3 years or so. I
developed bad excema on my face about 2 years ago (somewhere I'd never had it before) and
it was so bad I didnt want to go outside. However in the last 6 months or so I've managed
to clear it up, although I'm still left with the damage it's caused like thinned skin,
wrinkles and slight constant pinkness/redness to my skin, but it's better than when my
whole face was bright red and inflamed and flaking.
Anyway, about 6 months ago I started using a copper peptide cream (called P&R) from a
company called Skin Bio on the net, and also emu oil (just search copper peptides and skin
bio in Google). Now I'm not sure if it was the cream and emu oil that did it or the not
scratching my face at all, but I have a feeling it was the not scratching as I've used the
creme on other parts of my body that still has excema (most of it) and hasn't done
anything so far, but then again, I still scratch the excema I have in those places. So my
best advice would to first stop using steroids as soon as you've got it under control and
then secondly and most importantly is to not scratch and let your skin heal. I'm going try
this myself on the other parts of my body that have not cleared up yet and I'll post an
update if it worked or not. - Louisa, NZ

Question #SK026
Eczema - Excema - liver - hepatitis
First of all, I want to say how grateful I am to see that
this site tries to help us with this terrible thing called excema.
I had hepatitis as a child and my mother says the doctor told her my liver had been
damaged and that I should not eat chilly, oil, alcohol and that is all I know. Now at 26
years of age I have chronic excema and seem to get no relief from bleeding, itching,
cracked skin and embarressment from how hideous I appear. You name the body part and
excema has coverd it. Does my liver have anything to do with my skin going this bad. If
so, how can i avoid my liver affecting my skin. I really need to know the answer.. Thanks.

Answer #SK026
Eczema - Excema - liver - hepatitis
Have your doctor do a liver function test.
Liver cleanse, liver support with vitamins (especially B-Complex), liver support herbals,
avoid medications that are harmful to the liver, avoid all common household cleansers
(most are toxic), avoid fragrances, alcohol, do some detective work to find out if you are
allergic or intolerant to foods. Basically try to keep yourself as non-toxic as possible,
so the liver has less to deal with. - JP

Eczema - Excema - Elbows - Stress Related
I think I have ezcema. The back of my elbows are
flared up as with my whole body. It intensly itchy, expecially when I get stressed out. My
question is Can you develop this skin condition from stress alone, or is it an allergic
reaction to something. Please Help - Sandra, Lindenhurst
>>
Answer #SK027
Eczema - Excema - Elbows - Stress Related
This is more of a suggestion than an answer,
because as you know there is no "answer" to excema. Both stress, and
allergies can cause flare ups in excema, and since you are unsure which on is the cause,
and it can be both, can I suggest that you go on a stress vitamin, and see if that helps.
I tried a B Complex with C, Zinc, Vitamin E and Copper (Stress Tab from drug store)
and it cleared my (stress related) excema up in 3 days. If that doesn't work, and
you think it more of an allergy problem, try going on a cleanse for two weeks. This
would require you to omit from your diet all white and wheat flours, dairy, and
significantly decrease the amount of sugars that you consume (it's only for two weeks!!!)
to allow your liver to clear out and start to process sugars and dairy better. If
your liver is toxic (overwhelmed) with overprocessed foods, dairy and simple
carbohydrates, it will be too stressed out to handle mild allergies. Therefore showing up
through your skin. I hope this helps!! - Calgary

Question #SK028
Eczema - Blisters - Fleas
I'm not for sure if I have excema, but this is
what's happened. A few years ago, I let a stray cat in my room, and got fleas
everywhere. I got bit all over my feet with fleas, and since then, every year, have
this "blisters" that come up, and when they break open, it seems wherever the
puss goes, I get more "blisters". Right now, they're on my toes, and part
of one of my toes has a small patch where I scratched with my shoe *while wearing my shoe,
scratch it with the other shoe* and it now has almost no skin. It gets incredibly
itchy. From what I have read here, it seems to be the same thing. I'm not sure
why it comes up for the first time of the year. Right now, I'm wearing bandaids
where the "blisters" are. Hopefully that'll help till I can get meds.
If anyone has tried anything to treat it that really works, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

>> Answer #SK029
Eczema - Heridity - Soy
As the frantic parent of a multi allergenic 4yr
old with severe eczema I have found that preventing flare-ups is the only way to go. First
you have to "kill" the eczema by bathing, moisturising (Ego QV cream has been
the best for us), applying cortisone and wet and dry wrapping with tubular bandages at
least twice a day and three times/day under extreme conditions. Remove bandages when dry
during the day and sleep in them all night. After a few days or a week, reduce wet/dry
wrapping to a nightly basis, then reduce the cortisone application down to zero. Continue
to bathe, moisturise and wet/dry wrap every night without fail, even when no eczema is
present. That way you keep on top of it and the most cortisone we have to use is the
occaisional dab. We also use supplements such as fish oil, probiotics, dietary controls,
allergen avoidance but these measures alone don't have the same impact. You do need to
check with your doctor before using cortisone under wet wraps but my daughter's...
