Answer #SK050 - Eczema - Symptoms
Your description does match eczema, but it could
also be contact dermatitis, and a host of other similar skin conditions. Only a doctor or
dermatologist can diagnose your condition. Make an appointment. - Ed

Question #SK051
Eczema - Scalp - Graves Disease - Multiple Sclerosis MS
My father had eczema and my older brother
suffers as well. About 2 1/2 yrs ago I was diagnosed with MS then Graves disease on
top of that. Since then I have also had a major flare up of eczema and it is
horrible! My hands are so sore I can hardly hold a pen at work and the meds I have tried
are oly superficially helping. At night I have to sleep with ice bags in my hands to cut
down on the itching and burning feeling. Now the past 3 days I have had a sore spot
on my scalp which is 'oozing' and I believe it is also ezcema. I have read about
others here who have the hot spots develop - and I have those too...sigh... Is there
anyone who is aware of any correlation between MS/Graves and Eczema? Thank
you in advance... - Debra

Answer #SK051
Eczema - Scalp - Graves Disease - Multiple Sclerosis MS
Eczema, MS & Graves are all symptoms of
Vitamin D deficiency. Get out in the sun at least 3 times per week for at least
15-20 minutes. If you live North of Atlanta, take a couple of mini vacations South
for sun during the winter months. A professional UV-B lamp might do the trick but
only under a Doctor's care. Also, Omega 3 Fatty Acids... You are obviously low.
Take a 1000 mg Cod Liver Oil twice daily during the winter months (breakfast &
dinner). Regular fish oil in the summer months if you are getting the sun I
mentioned above. Bare your arms and legs if possible and do not wear a hat or makeup
during your visits with the sun. Avoid Trans Fat (artificial fat) and cut down on
over exposure to omega 6 fats. Eat Omega 3 eggs a couple of times a week and
use olive oil and or canola oil in all of your cooking and baking. Avoid all fried
fast food and prepared baked goods with Trans Fat/Hydrogenated Oil. If it says 0
grams Trans Fat, double-check the ingredients as less tha... (incomplete--over limit).

Question #SK052 - Skin Zinc
Could someone who has used skin zink (Skin
Zinc) please let me know if they have had any luck with it and were to buy it.
thank you - maureen

Answer #SK052 - Skin Zinc
I have ezcema on my left thumb, left knuckle,
knee, and elbow. I have used Skin Zinc, and ******* HC (Hydrocortisone), and neither did
what the web sites promise. ******* HC helps with the itch but only for a little while,
but then dries it out. I have found that mineral oil helps with the itch and flaking.
(It's an intestinal lubricant, which I use on my wood masonry levels to keep them
from cracking) so I tried it on my ezcema. It's like $3.00 a bottle--cheaper than $35.00 I
spent on each of the others. Hope this helps - Scott

Question #SK053 - Eczema
I'm 17. I have had excema since I was in 7th
grade. It's gotten less and less worse since then. But I always get one patch of it on my
arm. It's usually a circle shape, and it turns my skin white. It's also flakey and red
too. And it itches so bad. I also get it on my legs. I only get it in the winter because I
get no sunlight what so ever. So my question is, if I go tanning regularly, will my excema
disapear? - Bloom, Salt Lake City
>> Answer #SK053 - Eczema
I find that if I go tanning regularly, my skin
is 100% healthier. There's no itching, redness, and the thickness goes down. The important
thing is to moisturize regularly. - Katie, PA

Question #SK056 - Eczema - Scalp - Perm
I have medium case of excema on my scalp. Have
not found anything that works. My question is I want to get a light body perm for my hair.
My beautician is going to let me try some perm lotion before we try to do perm. Would
putting vaseline on scalp help keep solution off skin? Any chance perm solution could help
excema go away? Whats best hair perm. sol. so I can get it done without hurting myself? -
Hill
>>
Answer #SK056 - Eczema - Scalp - Perm
I have had eczema all my life (19 year) mostly
on my legs, feet and arms. I got a perm a year ago and experienced a burning
sensation on my neck while I got it done. The solution from the perm left a bad rash
on my neck but not my head. Im not sure why though. - Paula, CA
Editor's note: The skin on
the back of the neck is thinner and far more sensitive than scalp skin. Next time have the
technician apply Vaseline to the entire back of your neck before perming. Also to Hill's
question about Vaseline on the scalp...can't to that. But, the dirtier and more oily your
scalp and hair is before perming, the more natural protection you have on your scalp.
Never never never wash your hair just before perming or coloring if you have a sensitive
scalp. There are milder perm solutions...your beautician would know.

Question #SK057 - Eczema - Ring Finger
I have recently developed "excema" on
my ring finger "under" my wedding band. Or I believe that is what it is, because
it looks like the same thing I had on my face years ago, which was diagnosed as excema. It
seems to be getting worse. I have "tried" to wear gloves when my hands are in
water, but it is SO hard to do. I haven't changed dish detergent, etc. WHAT do I need to
do? I DO NOT want to take my rings off!! - Betty
>>
Answer #SK057 - Eczema - Ring Finger
Try wearing the rings on your other hand for
awhile, to see it it clears up, or paint your rings with clear fingernail polish. That
will tell you if you are reacting to the metal in the rings, and it won't hurt your rings.

Question #SK059 - Eczema - Eczema soaps
Non-steroidal treatments - HE detergents
My 14 year-old son has suffered from eczema
since he was in kindergarten. I am looking for a non-steriod treatment. I've heard that
there are several out there -- Protopic, Elidel, Aclovate, Aquaphor, maybe others -- but I
don't know how to compare them. Also I have heard of different soaps that might help --
such as Cetaphyl or Spectroderm. Can you help me compare these options? Also, we have a
High Efficiency (HE) washer that requires use of HE detergent -- are there any HE brands
you know of that tend to be more friendly to eczema sufferers? - Alice
>>
Answer #SK059 - Eczema - Eczema soaps
Non-steroidal treatments - HE detergents
I have recently studied different washers since
I am trying to figure out which one to buy. I learned that an HE washer does not require
HE soap. I learned that it is really hard to find HE brands for HE washers, but you can
use any soap and it will not hurt the washer. AS far as the laundry soap that is good for
eczema sufferers, my son also suffers from eczema and I know that you can use brands for
allergy sufferers. You can use laundry detergent for babies or try any mild detergent.
Also, the Queen of Clean has a good book on doing laundry. Borrow library books on doing
laundry and you will find advice on good soaps for allergy sufferers or people with
sensitive skin. Go to web sites such as www.wellness-shop.com (New Zealand) or
oxyboost.com (Wisconsin, USA) and there are soaps for allergy sufferers. Hope this helps.
